My New Toy

Yeah, finally I got a new toy, anyway it's not the hi-end range of the 'toy' I wanted, but that's the toy I afford to get it.

Guess what is my new toy? My old toy contributed so many 'creations' in this blog. The reason I want to get a new toy because it's my favorite 'game' I played since I was in high school.

Let me show you my old toy...

My Old Toy

Don't think that I'll throw away my old toy, I still like it because easy to use and convenience to carry around in my working construction site.

After saving for some time, finally I manage to get a little bit higher specification digital camera than my previous camera to satisfy my 'steam-ness' in photography, so I decided to get a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18.

My New Toy

It's amazing to get such specs with Leica lense in reasonable price, the wide angle is 28mm and optical zoom up to 18x (504mm). I still haven't got time to discover all the features with my new toy, anyway I'm impress with the features which is good enough for me.

I'm a SLR freak, I really miss my old analog-fully-manual SLR in my home town. The reason I get this camera (above) because it looks a like a DSLR camera.

So... stay tuned for more photos in my upcoming posts yah!

Wet Wet Dubai

Sorry for no update this few days and also never visit to any blogs, on Monday (14 Jan 2008) George Bush visited to Dubai, so all the major roads were closed on that day, my working site have to declare a day off for all workers, anyway, I still went to work to help up for an important meeting.

On Monday night was heavy rain in Dubai, the next day our construction site was flooded with rain water. Not only that, our site office also affected, the temporary site office never design for such heavy down pour, the result our site office was leaking and flooded.

It was my first time saw the rain in Dubai after few months, to me it only like normal rain in Malaysia, but I can see many roads were flooded by rain water.

Today we only managed to clean up the office to resume our work, luckily my working computer never affected by rain water.

New Personal Protective Equipments

The hazard of getting injuries or lost of lives is very high in any construction field, therefore the Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) is very important for all to enter construction site.

Here I got some examples from my email shows that very creative ways to replace the proper PPE to be used in construction site...

The Mummy Return?

This one really a hero, he used a plastic bag to cover his face as a replacement of mask to protect his eyes and face. I wonder how he breath with it unless he poked some small hole at the nose position...

Information Maskman

This one damn terror, he just use newspaper as protective mask to cover his face during the welding works. I wonder the welding sparks can burn the paper or not... haha

Human counter weight working platform

This one I can be sure that they have too many of labours until the three labours have to be the counter weight for the working platform. Anyway, the working platform also so narrow without railing and also without safety harness, this method really cut cost to the maximum... hahaha.

Sponge Hat?

This one more creative, this method can use any recycled sponge to be a safety hard hat. I think he is protecting his head from falling coconuts than construction objects, or maybe he learned some lessons from Isaac Newton? Wakakaka...

From all the pictures above, please do not try it at home.... Opsss... Sorry, my fault... Please Do Not Try It In Construction Site!!! Any injuries or damages is under your own responsibility.

Safety Comes First!!!

Short Trip at Dubai Creek

Few weeks back me and another 2 colleagues went to Dubai Creek during a day off, then we tried to take a ride across the Creek with the Water Bus.

There are few types of services to bring you to cross the Dubai Creek, we only manage to try out the Water Bus which only cost Dhs 4 per trip, the Water Buses are covered by glasses and with air conditional. It also has cheaper type which is smaller boat and open air.

Finally I got chance to cross over the Dubai Creek by boat, I'll try the cheaper (open air) boat if got chance, or we also planned to rent a boat to travel the whole Dubai Creek when we got time. Now is the best time to travel around Dubai, the temperature now here is only 12 to 24 degree Celsius.

New Year Dinner at Festival City, Dubai

This was my first time in so many years I never celebrate new year during new year eve, I was just sitting at home watching movie with my colleague. It was a bit weird feeling to me which I didn't get drunk during new year eve until new year (it means drunk for 2 years straight)... Wakakaka.

Anyway, on the new year evening, me and some colleagues decided not to cook at home, so we went to Festival City in Dubai for dinner. I was impressed by the environment there, it's so impressive with the musical fountain and the man made canal. We were having some Italian foods there and the feeling like we were in 'modern' Venice.

The musical fountain is the most attractive spot overall, so many people were standing there just to enjoy the orchestra musics together with the 'art of water' from the fountain. Imagine how nice if can have some wines, sitting right in front of the musical fountain...

People were crowded up the place to enjoy the musical fountain

Personally, I love water sound, so now I found a good place for me to relax my mind if I got over-stressed by work.

Save Them, Don't Let Them Be History

New year new revolution, start of 2008 I want to be a good boy... I sound like I'm a bad boy all the time... hahaha.

I got an email from an editor in chief for Malaysia Travel Guide to help him post up the online campaign on "Malaysia Wildlife Conservation Awareness 08". I'm a person who love nature and wildlife, it's my pleasure if I can contribute a little efforts for this awareness although I can't join this campaign in Malaysia.

This campaign is seek to increase public awareness and knowledge of the value of biodiversity, and this conservation will begins with education. According to the 2007 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, life on Earth is disappearing fast and will continue to do so unless urgent action is taken.

Malaysia wildlife facts:
  • 14% of Malaysia’s mammals are listed by The World Conservation Union (IUCN) as endangered
  • 30 species of turtle ever discovered, only 7 are left
  • Less than 1,500 Borneo Pygmy elephants are found in the world
  • It is estimated that there are less than 20 Sumatran rhinoceros left in Borneo
  • The Bornean species of orangutan is highly endangered, and the Sumatran species is critically endangered, according to the IUCN Red List of mammals, and both are listed on Appendix I of CITES.

So, what are you waiting for? Let's save the wildlife to prevent them from extinction. Don't let them be the history like dinosaurs. If we can't be a hero like in HEROES series to 'Save The Cheerleader and Save The World', now we can be the heroes in reality world to 'Save The Wildlife and Save The World'!.

Save The Wildlife!!!
