Short Trip in Muscat, Oman

I guess everyone is waiting for more pictures on Oman from me, here I come!!!

I wasn't feeling well for the past few days due to very bad tooth pain, my 3rd wisdom teeth now only came out, it's very late for me to have wisdom teeth. According to the facts, wisdom teeth will be occured in between age 17 and 25, and now my wisdom teeth is delaying more than 7 years! What a 7 years itchy from my teeth... LOL.

Alright, back to the topic, I managed to spend few hours to tour around Muscat town. Thanks to my working company's sub-contractor who so kind to offer me a ride in Muscat.

I'm safe and sound in Oman now, thanks to my working company's sub-contractor giving me a warm welcome and help for this trip.

This country is quite different from UAE, from the scenery till the people here are much better, they are more friendly and the scenery here are much natural and more greeny than UAE. The only different is no high rise or special iconic buildings here.

My 1st two days was so busy, after check-in hotel, I was rushing to bank to settle my working company's document. The next day went to the government office to submit some documents and met up with out sponsor there.

The hotel I'm staying now is normal but clean, that's my main criteria to stay in any hotels. It also provide free internet access for customers, that's great! Unlike hotels in UAE, they charge on everything.

Guess what opposite of the hotel I'm staying? I saw a big Nikon sign and I'm really excited to walk in and take a look.

Nikon & Rolex & Other Branded Shop

I guess it's a luxury shopping place since it is selling Rolex and main seller of Nikon cameras and accessories and other branded staffs. The sales person there are very friendly, they'll smile and greet you, I was quite not used to it since I never met this kind of services in UAE.

When I stopped at Nikon corner, the sales person very kind to me, we chat quite some time and he allowed me to test Nikon 10-24mm DX lens! Wow!!! I don't even want to buy but he purposely let me test on it. The price are cheaper than selling in UAE but not as cheap as we can get in Malaysia.

I really got poisoned of this ultra wide angle lens already now, the picture quality really sharper than I expected. I may get this lens when I back to Penang soon.

*****Breaking News!!!*****

I'll be going off to Oman tomorrow morning. My boss just informed me this morning and I have to get myself well prepared to fly there in less than 24 hours.

This time I'll stay in Oman for about a week, then back to Abu Dhabi for a day, then back to Malaysia for my holiday!!! Then back to Oman again for 1-2 weeks time.

This time will be a special task for me and I never done it before, it will be a new challenge to me, furthermore I'm going alone! Sound like a James Bond right? The only different is no hot chicks around me like James Bond in the movie... Wakakaka.

I may away for a week depend on internet access availability there, so... wish me luck and can come back in one piece yah! *Sounds like go for special mission pula... LOL* I'll be alright, don't worry so much.

The Lost Chambers at Atlantis Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Last Friday my colleagues pulled me out for photography session, I wasn't so keen to go since I went there before, but they don't know the way to go so I have to sacrifice my own sweet time to guide them to go this 'money wasting' aquarium.

Nothing different from my previous post on this 'The Lost Chambers', the only different is this time I'm using my D90, the pictures quality is very much better than the previous post.

Right now I really in the damn-bloody-super-extra-ultimate BORED condition living in this desert land... Reasons:

No Badminton game available here
No cheap golf balls for driving range
No rock 'kakis' among all colleagues
Very limited camera accessories selling here
Sky-high expensive camera accessories if available
No hawker foods like in Malaysia
Full of dusts and fine sand
Missed out all F1 races (Friday only weekend)
Missed out all MotoGP races (Friday only weekend)
No pubs (only available in hotels, too far)
No live bands (only in hotel pubs, too far)
No driving license even I'm entitled
Crazy weather here
Limited internet access
No freedom to go anywhere I like
No social life
Nothing is FREE or CHEAP here

I don't know how long I can stand for this kind of situation, life here is only work, eat, sleep... nothing much can do, I don't crazy for girls so what can I do???!!!

I tell you maybe one day I gonna hit wall till dead, I really wish to come back for good. Working here doesn't mean can earn more as I work with a 'typical' Malaysian company, nothing special benefit is given like foreign companies.

Dilemma On Wide Angel Lens Selection

Right now I really in dilemma which wide angel lens I should get, Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 DX or Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 DX?

Both are good lenses after I study on reviews from many websites, both also got its Pros & Cons respectively as we know nothing is perfect.

Currently I owned all 4 Nikkor lenses, 18-108mm VR DX (D90 kit lens), 105mm Micro VR, 70-300mm VR and 50mm f1.4D. Should I collect all Nikkor lenses or should I break my collection with one Tokina lens?

I only will get one of it (Nikkor or Tokina) when I come back to Malaysia for holiday. In UAE the Nikkor 10-24mm is selling AED 4999 which is almost RM2K higher than we can get in Malaysia, this is crazy! For Tokina, I can say near impossible to get in UAE.

If I get Tokina, I may got little bit extra budget to get a Manfrotto tripod, but I still prefer Nikon since I'm using this brand since 1996. I really in deep dilemma now!

I really need more experts' advices on this matter now...

18th Times!

This is not about my accommodation shifting for the 18th times, this is about my long time favorite soccer team Manchester United crowned the 18th times of English Premier League Championship.

They also equal with all time most champions in this major league, Liverpool. It's a great achievement from them.

I wasn't managed to watch the game as here still in working hour, too bad I didn't managed to watch them lifted the trophy but I'm very happy they did it again!

I supported this team since I was aged 7 till now, that time Man Utd still not as strong as now. The best thing is most of my housemates also support this team, everytime have the match, we'll sit down together and cheer together when they scored, the scenario just like at mamak store in Malaysia.

One more cup to go, and we are looking forward on it. Right now I'm proud to be one of the die-hard Manchester United fans.

Hatta Pool Trip

Last Thursday evening me and a big group of my colleagues went to Hatta Pools for camping. We started our journey about 4.30pm and reached there about 8pm, by the time we reached the destination, the sky was already dark.

The weather now is quite hot even during night time, most of us can't even sleep well due to hot weather.

I really enjoying the trip, my main purpose to this trip is for photo hunting, I don't know how to swim so I did not spent so much time in water. Overall it was fun but too tired when reached home.

Testing On New Lenses

Managed to test my lastest Nikon 50mm f1.4D lens and Nikon 105mm Micro VR lens during my visit to Big Boys Toys as posted in previous post. I was having refreshment while waiting my colleagues finish their shopping, then I saw Orchid infront of me, so I just simply took some shots on it.

Using 50mm f1.4D lens at f1.4

I like the bokeh effect, by using the large aperture at f1.4, I manage to snap it in low lighting condition. That's why they called this lens as 'legend', it gives very sharp picture quality and almost no distortion.

Using 105mm F2.8 Mirco VR lens at f5.6

This micro lens really 'scare' me, I still can go nearer to the Orchid but I wanted to get a nice angle so I have to step backwards to get it. With the VR function I still can get a sharp image at speed 1/15s. I purposely used f5.6 to cut less the bokeh effect.

Conclusion... I'm very satisfied with my lenses. Now I'm hunting my last lens, that is the latest Nikon 10mm-24mm DX Ultra Wide Angle lens. Due to budget constrain, I have to save some money first. Anyway, UAE still don't have the stock, so it's good for me to wait.

My advice... get a cheaper 3rd party lens like I did as beginner, once you really serious into it only get the good one. I was using 3rd party lenses before past 14 years back, now I only got little budget to get the good one for the rest of my life.

Last weekend (Friday) me and colleagues went to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) for Big Boys Toys exhibition. It was a quite disappointed visit for us, we thought it was as grand as International Auto Show, who knows the items they displayed were far lesser than expectation.

The entrance fee also far higher than auto show, and we were not that happy after visit the exhibition, nothing much to see on real big boys toys.

That's only few items that attracted me, the ADNEC is big, but the exhibition area only as above picture shows. I think the adult people here only interested more to automobile and games. Not much people here are serious about photography and music instruments. I have very much difficulty to buy any camera accessaries and the price are sky high higher than we can get in Malaysia.

So... What is your toys? I have too much toys with me now which are more to my gadgets. I still dream to have a toy and that is David Gilmour's Black Strat guitar, I think that will only be my dream toy for my whole life... Right now I'm really crazy and been invested too much on my toys below:

Can anyone tell me how to build a building without foundation? Or can anyone build a building first then only build the foundation? I'm not joking, I mean it's a real building, not a simple dog house which no need foundation.

Even for all who are not in construction field also can understand, any building must start from foundation. Here I got a sample picture taken from my email some time ago, I don't know where is that place and I also don't know who is the designer and builder.

First of all I would like to thank all who wishes my birthday today via SMS, email, facebook, verbal... I really appreciate it. Anyway, I still work as usual, nothing is so special to me on my birthday. If I work in UK will be good, I may have holiday because Queen Elizabeth II also born in 21 April.

Last weekend once again a crazy group of us that 'wanna-be' photographer went to watch and snap the Red Bull Air Race at Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The weather on that day was quite bad, there was no blue sky and full of dust, we couldn't get a single nice shot on the sky. Anyway, it was fun to watch this kind of race and it was my first experience to watch it. Those pilots are really good and physically damn fit to take the G-force up to 12x at approximately 370km/h. My opinion this racing sport is much dangerous and required more skills than Formula One. All pilots must responsible to avoid crash to spectators if accident happens, all pilots must be extremely fit and fast reaction to enter the race. I can see the pilot faces from big screen TV shows that they are really struggled with G-force inside the plane.

The photography shooting is not that easy because the planes move so fast on air, I have to use very fast speed shutter and fast panning to capture the special moments.

Last weekend me and few colleagues went to Dubai for our photography trip. We were worrying about the weather condition as last whole week the weather in UAE was so crazy with thunderstorm and sandstorm.

Luckily on Thursday night the weather was perfect, and we all 'tortured' our own cameras (Nikon D3, Nikon D300, Nikon D90, Nikon D80 & Canon 400D) very much till everyone satisfied, I was 'raping' my Nikon D90 till tired... Hahaha.

I've snapped hundreds of photos and I lazy to choose so much to post up here, the reason I have to resized it in order faster uploading to the blog. I'm really satisfy with my D90 performance, my battery life still got 70% balance after shooting about 350 pictures. Anyway, I'm using battery pack with two batteries inserted, another battery still have 100% life. It means this D90 battery is consuming very low battery power even I used long exposure so often in the night time.

Formula One season has been started since a week ago in Australia, everyone who like Formula One racing sport should very excited to follow up every race result, I'm one of them as I love Formula One since I was 7 years old (no joke!).

Currently I'm involving in the construction of Abu Dhabi F1 - YAS Marina Circuit, I'm really glad that I'm in the project as I love this sport very much. Right now we have to push beyond the limit to achieve the opening target date (1 Nov 2009).

Everybody is talking who is the greatest F1 driver so far? Well... It's obviously majority will say Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost... and many more. For this generation we can see many great drivers has born in this racing sport, but nobody know that the most latest greatest F1 drivers are goes to...

Deep Purple Live in Dubai

Yesterday (20 Mar 2009) me and my colleague from Abu Dhabi all the way went to Dubai to watch one of my 'must watch' concert in Dubai. The 'must watch' concert to me must be one of a greatest legendary rock bank on this planet, and this band is Deep Purple!!!

The concert was organised inconjunction with Dubai Bikers' Week. We were so excited to watch this concert and we arrived early to grab a nice position to watch this concert, and we choosed right infront of the guitarist - Steve Morse.

I decided to snap more clearer and nearer photos for this concert, so I went to bought a AF-S 70-300mm ED with VR Nikon lens before the show, after bought the lens then only knew that the organiser not allowing to bring cameras into the concert arena. Damn!!! I wasted so much money to buy the lens and I can't use it in the concert, I nearly wanted to bang my head at wall!

The show started about 9.20pm (+4 GMT), and the first song they played was Highway Star!!! The moment I saw them came out to stage, I nearly cried out, finally... I got chance to see one of my favorite rock bands right infront of me!

Although they are so old now, but they are still rock! Only thing the vocalist, Ian Gillan has lost his powerful voice, most of the time I can't hear what he sang, but who cares? The band were playing so well.

When the moment they played Smoke On The Water, everyone were getting mad, myself was very high because this song was my 1st ever rock song I heard when I was just a small kid.

The show ended around 10.45pm (+4 GMT), I felt still not enough for it. Anyway, I really enjoy it, the only spoiler was I was not allow to bring my cameras to enter to the concert, I brought both my wives Nikon D90 & Lumix FZ-28 and I have to keep it in the car...

Nikon D90 Rocks Too!!!

I remember the last time I bought my SLR camera (Nikon FM10) was back in end of 1995 and I was semi retired on photography since year 1999. Till now after more than 13 years I get my second SLR camera but in digital format (Nikon D90), and this time I still stick to Nikon which is always my first choice in SLR cameras.

Luckily my uncle helps me to buy this camera in Penang, then my colleague brought over to Dubai when he back from holiday trip in Malaysia. The reason I prefer get it from Malaysia because here selling extra almost RM 2K!!!

Although I got my D90, I still love my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which is more versatile on all occasions. Anyway, right now I will not have much time on photography since my works are priority.

I'm planning to snap another Nikon Family photo at my another colleague house, most of us here are Nikon fans, got a person own a Nikon D3 & D300, it is very crazy to me, I can't even aford to own a D300.

Back in Action

Last week my 1.5 years old Dell laptop suddenly dead without any warning, I was about to transfer some files and it just went blackout. I thought just power failure but after checked on it, it has been confirmed the mainboard is died!!!

So right now I got no choice to dig out plenty of money to get another new laptop, after surveying I decided to get a HP laptop to replace my old laptop.

This month I really broke since I just bought a Nikon D90, I never expect my Dell laptop can be dead so soon. Sigh... Why all these things happened at the same time?

I have to get it in Dubai since I can't back to Malaysia at this moment, without laptop I really can suicide here, that's my only 'life' while working aboard.

I still need some time to get used my Nikon D90 since I've been lost touch on SLR cameras for a long time, it's totally different with analog photography, there are so many setting or options to be used for DSLR. The laptop pictures above were taken by my new DSLR.

Today morning was heavy fog across UAE, I managed to snap some pictures via my Nikon D90 in the car. The visibility was so low and I have use manual focus to snap the picture.

One day, I was having a short break with my colleagues, suddenly I saw a very special thing fell from sky.

I told my colleagues... 'Hey guys... Look! An upgraded witch is coming!!!' Everybody were looking around and asked me... 'Where? Where? Where? Then I pointed to the direction... Then everybody were laughing like hell.

I wonder who tide the sweeper like that on the bicycle and for what purpose? Maybe that fella wants to sweep people away when he takes corner?

When you read on this post, yes... I'm shifting again and this is my 11th time shifting my accommodation in 1.5 years working in UAE.

I was shifting from Abu Dhabi to Dubai then to Abu Dhabi and then Dubai... Then Abu Dhabi again now... In Dubai I also shifted from one place to another places. I'm getting numb of it now, I think my next move will be back to Malaysia.

I think I should get an honorable award on my shifting accommodation, my colleagues also suggested to nominate me into Book of Guinness World Records 2009. I was like errrrr..... I became another joke stories in my working company. So I'm the record holder so far, at least I can be proud on it...

Should I nominated in world record as most shifting accommodation?

Anyway, this time the shifting if more benefit to me, I no need to travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi everyday to work, so I can save almost 3-4 hours journey on the road into my sleeping/rest time.

The only thing I upset is no internet connection in my new accommodation, I have to go other accommodation to online after this, so my blog will not able to update so often after this, hope you all understand it.
