The Eagles - Hotel California

The Eagles are an American rock music group that was formed in Los Angeles, California in the early 1970s. With five number one singles and four number one albums, the Eagles were among the most successful recording artists of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of their albums, Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 and Hotel California, ranked among the ten best-selling albums according to the Record Industry Association of America.

Band Members:

(1974) from left: Bernie Leadon, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Randy Meisner, Don Felder

The Eagles, from left: Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Don Henley, Don Felder, Glenn Frey

Overview:

Their early music was a hybrid of country and bluegrass instrumentation grafted onto the harmonies of California surfer rock, producing tender ballads and soft top-down country-flavored pop-rock about relationships, cars, and the wandering life. The originators of this genre were gifted singer/songwriters, among them Gram Parsons, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, and Warren Zevon. The Eagles took the singer-songwriter ethos to a group setting with increased emphasis on arrangements and musicianship, and the group's early sound became synonymous with the southern California country rock. On later albums the band dispensed with bluegrass instrumentation and gravitated to a more straight-ahead rock sound.

The Eagles were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.

Break-up

The tour ended on July 31, 1980 in Long Beach, California, when tempers boiled over into what Bill Szymczyk memorably described as "The Long Night At Wrong Beach." Frey and Felder spent the entire show describing to each other the beating each planned to administer backstage - "Only three more songs until I kick your ass, pal," Frey recalls Felder telling him near the end of the band's set. Felder recalls Frey making a similar threat to him just as they began to sing "The Best Of My Love." As soon as the show was over, mayhem broke out. Frey launched an assault on Felder, who protected himself with his guitar. Within seconds, the rest of the band had joined in. It took a dozen roadies to pull the warring factions apart.

It was the end of the Eagles, although the band still owed Warners a live record from the tour. Eagles Live (released in November 1980) was mixed by Frey and Henley on opposite coasts - the two decided they couldn't bear to be in the same state, let alone the same studio, and as Bill Szymczyk put it, the record's perfect three-part harmonies were fixed "courtesy of Federal Express." After credits that listed no less than five attorneys, the album's liner notes simply said, "Thank you and goodnight."

Resumption

In 1993, an Eagles country tribute album Common Thread was released. Travis Tritt insisted on having the Long Run-era Eagles in his video for "Take It Easy."

After the "Take It Easy" video was completed the following year, the band reunited, after years of public speculation that it would. The personnel was the five Long Run era members, supplemented by additional players on stage. "We never broke up, we just took a 14 year vacation" announced Frey at the taping of their first live performance in April, 1994. The ensuing tour spawned a live album entitled Hell Freezes Over (named for Henley's statement that the group would get back together only when hell froze over), and two singles -- "Get Over It" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive".

Controversy followed on September 12, 1996 when the band dedicated "Peaceful Easy Feeling" to Saddam Hussein at a United States Democratic Party fundraiser held in Los Angeles.

In 1998, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During the induction ceremony, Frey, Henley, Felder, Walsh, and Schmit performed together, and former members Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner rejoined the band for the performance, where the band played "Take it Easy" and "Hotel California". Several subsequent reunion tours would follow, notable for their record-setting ticket prices. In February 2001, Don Felder was fired from the group; Felder and the Eagles filed lawsuits against each other. In 2003 the Eagles released a new single, the September 11th-themed "Hole in the World".

On June 14th, 2005, the Eagles released a new DVD entitled Farewell 1 Tour-Live from Melbourne featuring two new songs: Glenn Frey's "No More Cloudy Days" and Joe Walsh's "One Day at a Time". The band will tour Europe in the summer of 2006.

Don Henley has recently said a new Eagles album is on the way and they are aiming for it to be out by this Christmas. The new album is reportedly titled The Long Road To Eden.

Don't Ever Lie To Kids

There was this guy sunbathing in the nude at the beach. Well, this little girl comes up to him, so he covers his private parts with a newspaper.

The little girl says, "What's under there?" So the man answers, "A bird." The girl goes away and the man falls asleep. When he wakes up, he is in a hospital and in great pain. A doctor comes up to his bed and asks, "What happened?"

The man answers, "I don't know. I was at the beach and I fell asleep after talking to a little girl." So the doctor tells this to the Police, and they go to the beach to find any witnesses.

When they get there, they see the little girl the man was talking about. So they ask her if she did anything to the man. She answers, " I didn't do anything to the man, but while he was sleeping, I played with his bird. After a while, it spit at me, so I broke its neck, burned its nest, and smashed all its eggs.

Band Of The Week - Grand Funk Railroad

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who gave me good advices and opinions in my previous blog, I really appreciated :)

Weekend is coming again and this week I want to intro you all my another favourite classic rock band, Grand Funk Railroad. As usual, I want to share with you all one of their famous song, I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home). This song was dedicated to soldies coming back to their homeground after a war. I really love the part "I'm getting closer to my home~~~", it's so beautiful and so emotioned when I listening to it.

Click on 'Play' to listen the song

Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)

Grand Funk Railroad is an American power trio band. Not usually well-received by critics, the original Grand Funk Railroad lineup was highly popular during the 1970s, having sold over 25 million records and selling out arenas world-wide. They were often cited as "the loudest rock and roll band in the world." The current Grand Funk Railroad lineup uses the nickname "The American Band", from their hit song "We're An American Band".

From left to right: Mark Farner, Mel Schacher and Don Brewer

History (source: wikipedia)

The band was formed in 1969 by Mark Farner (vocals, guitar) and Don Brewer (vocals, drums), from Terry Knight and the Pack, and Mel Schacher (bass) from ? & the Mysterians in the working class, auto industry town of Flint, Michigan. Former bandmate Terry Knight soon became their manager and named the band after the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a
well-known rail line in Michigan.
First achieving recognition at the1969 Atlanta Pop Festival, the band was signed by Capitol Records. Patterned after Cream, but developing their own populist style, in 1970 they had sold more albums than any other American band and had become a major concert attraction. In that same year they had a hit single "Closer To Home," a song that was closer in style to the old Terry Knight and the Pack than it was to GFR. A year later, they went on to break The Beatles' record at Shea Stadium, selling out in just 71 hours. That record still stands today.Even with critical pans and lack of radio airplay, the group's first eight albums, released in three years, were successful.
Knight launched an intense advertising campaign to promote Closer To Home, a multi-platinum, smash hit album that was slammed by virtually every music critic, reportedly paying $100,000 for a huge billboard in New York City's Times Square. In 1972, Grand Funk Railroad fired Knight, who sued for breach of contract, resulting in a protracted legal battle After recruiting Craig Frost (keyboards), Grand Funk Railroad released Phoenix in 1972, and then as a result of the ongoing legal battle, shortened their name to Grand Funk. This was followed by two huge hit singles, "We're an American Band" (from We're An American Band) and "The Loco-Motion" (written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin for Little Eva). Following a pop-style album, All the Girls in the World Beware!!!, and a name revert back to "Grand Funk Railroad", the band's popularity decreased. After finishing Good Singin', Good Playin' (1976) with producer Frank Zappa, Grand Funk Railroad disbanded. Farner began a solo career, releasing two critically acclaimed albums, while Brewer and Schacher formed Flint with the addition of Billy Ellworthy.
Grand Funk Railroad reunited in 1980 with Dennis Bellinger replacing Mel Schacher at the last moment on bass, and released two albums on the Warner Brothers label Full Moon. Neither album achieved much success. After disbanding a second time, Farner continued as a solo performer, eventually converting to Christianity and becoming a Christian recording artist, while Brewer and Frost joined Bob Seger's Silver Bulet Band. Most fans were convinced that they would never see GFR play together again, but in 1996, Grand Funk Railroad reunited once more, playing to 260,000 people in 14 sold out shows in a three month period.
In 1997, the band did three sold out Bosnian benefit concerts, releasing a benefit album called Bosnia. In 1999, after three years of touring, and a year longer than he had originally agreed on, Mark Farner left the band to continue his solo career, which he had put on hold. He continues to perform with his band N'r'G, doing mostly GFR tunes as well as some solo material. He no longer has any affiliation with the original band, despite an occasional advertising misquote by some promoters.
Terry Knight (Richard Terrance Knapp) was murdered in Killeen, Texas on November 1, 2004. He was 61.
As for GFR, after Farner left in 1999, Brewer and Schacher were left with a band that was once again hot and popular, but now without a frontman and principal vocalist. They eventually decided to keep the train rolling by recruiting lead singer Mac Carl (of .38 Special fame), former KISS lead guitarist Bruce Kulick, and keyboard player Timothy Cashion in late 2000, and the new Grand Funk Railroad has toured steadily since then, building a new audience while still drawing fans of the original band.

THIS ARTICLE WAS PUBLISHED BY KERRANG MUSIC MAGAZINE IN 1984 (England)

It gives us a lot of information about the time for Grand Funk breakthrough and answers many questions about why critics killed GFR, why rock history writers have forgotten the greatest rock group of all times and why there is almost impossible to find Grand Funk records (at least in Europe). Nearly every record store has a great number of records with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and Deep Purple from the seventies. The following article is written by a journalist called Chris Welch, who seems to dislike GFR, but sure is impressed by their popularity. (webmaster)

Stress? Tension? Frus? Confuse?

Ok, this time is serious, no jokes no rocks no crap. I got something to confess here about myself...

Living in a city really is not that easy, I've been living in this major city about 4 1/2 years and I still can't use to it. The reason why I came to KL is because of my career and education. I was working with a civil and structural consultant company about 2 years in my hometown Butterworth and being treated like a cow instead I was a Clerk Of Work (COW). Everyday have to work till late night, sometimes have to work for 24 hours non-stop and the worst was 36 hours non-stop! I have to cover more than 10 construction sites in the same time and all were located far away. Half of my salary just contributed for my petrol... sigh!

Then I started my part time bachelor degree in Civil Engineering with UTM (SPACE), because of tight schedule of work so I applied for government job and finally I got it, so I'm posted to KL and I have to come all the way alone, I don't have any relatives or friends in KL that time. Then I transfered my study from Penang to KL UTM Campus. I was so frus with the system, when I transfered during short semester, they failed all my subjects with the reason I never sit for the exam! When the results came out I was attending government course outstation for almost a month. When I came back the application to appeal the result already closed, KNN!!! Really wasted my money and time to re-take all the subjects.

Last year, I left only a general paper to complete my study, but I was in the wrong timing, the subject only offered once in a year that mean I have to wait another year. I wrote so many letters to appeal them to offer it in normal semester, but they gave me a reason not enaugh student so have to cancel it... MCB!!! So I wasted a year for waiting a paper which is only Islamic studies and not related with my field. This year... finally I manage to finish it all and I was so happy after 4 1/2 years struggling with it, but nothing come smooth again... really TiuNiaSeng, they said my convocation have to postpone to next year because of my result came out so late! What the hell... why only me? All my classmates already graduated last year and I still have to spend another year somemore?!! I really damn 9 Tulan with it... I'd spent so much my own money and time on it, but why only me got such luck?

Now I'm in dilemma, I already completed my bachelor degree, I also applied for engineer post in govt and now I'm waiting for the interview for the new intake. At the same time got few companies asking me to join them, but I think still not the right time. Now I'm in the low-rank govt servant, and my current salary is not enaugh to cover my daily expenses, if I leave govt job I may get at least double than my current salary. So I give myself another years to wait my engineer post in govt, if not I'll leave and join private sectors. What do you think? Can give me some ideas?

That's why I was so down and bad mood in past few weeks about all of the above matters plus with my relationship another failure and I don't feel want to talk about it here.

That's all my confession... I feel better now, thanks for reading and comments.

The Legend of Cigarettes

Note: Just for reading pleasure, I'm sure most of you had read it before...

I am Peter Stuyvesant
I have two friends, Benson & Hedges
I came form the city of Marlboro
In the Salem high country
I always carry a Mild Seven
I rode on a White Horse
Going to Kingsway in Kent
It was Lucky Strike I fell in love
With the daughter of Master Duke
Her name was YSL
We got married by Perillys, the priest
We checked in at the house of Dunhill
And booked into room number 555
I laid her on the bed made of Gold Leaf
I played with her two Matterhorns
When I poked in my Rothmands King Size
She cried in delight, "You are a Rough Rider!!!"
You are riding like a mad Camel
When I asked her if she is satisfied,
She answered, "I want More!!!"

Band of The Week - Led Zeppelin

As I promised I'll post something about my favorite rock band/artist. This weekend I want to present you the most famous classic rock band... Led Zeppelin. Before start read about them, I would like to share with you all the best ever classic rock song... Stairway To Heaven. This song was rated as the best classic rock song and the guitar solo for the end part was excellent! It's my all time favorite song.

Click on 'Play' to listen the song.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

Led Zeppelin were an English rock band, one of the most successful and influential groups in popular music history. Led Zeppelin consisted of four members: Jimmy Page (guitar), Robert Plant (lead vocals), John Bonham (drums), and John Paul Jones (bass guitar and keyboards).

From left to right: John Bonham, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones

Formed in 1968, Led Zeppelin were innovators who never lost mainstream appeal. While the band is perhaps best known as pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal, Led Zeppelin also drew on many styles including blues, rockabilly, reggae, soul, funk, jazz, Celtic, Indian, Arabic, folk, pop, latin and country.

Over 25 years after disbanding in response to drummer John Bonham's tragic death in 1980, Led Zeppelin continue to be held in high regard for their artistic achievements, commercial success and influence. To date, the group is reported to have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, including 109.5 million sales in the United States.

John Bonham... A Tragic End.

On September 24, 1980, John Bonham was picked up by Led Zeppelin assistant Rex King to attend rehearsals at Bray Studios for the upcoming tour of the United States, the band's first since 1977. During the journey Bonham had asked to stop for breakfast, where he downed four quadruple vodkas (roughly sixteen shots (~8dl) of vodka), with a ham roll. After taking a bite of the ham roll he said to his assistant "breakfast."

He then continued to drink when he arrived at the studio. A halt was called to the rehearsals late in the evening and the band retired to Page's house. After midnight, Bonham had fallen asleep and was taken to bed on his side. It was rumoured that he had a total of forty shots that night. Benji LeFevre (who had replaced Richard Cole as Led Zeppelin's tour manager) and John Paul Jones found him dead the next morning. Bonham was 32 years old.

The cause of death was asphyxiation from vomit. A subsequent autopsy found no other drugs in Bonham's body. The alcoholism that had plagued the drummer since his earliest days with the band, ultimately led to his untimely death. John Bonham was the best drummer ever in 70's.

After the Bonham's death, rest of the members issued a statement in December 1980, once and for all clarifying that the band would not continue without its irreplaceable drummer. "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend, and the deep sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were".

Jimmy Page:

Jimmy Page 's incredible career spans four decades, appearing on an innumerable list of recordings. Best known for his trademark Les Pauls, double-neck guitar and riff-master deluxe, his contributions to rock history are nearly unmatched. He first picked up a guitar as a child, curiously plucking away on a Spanish acoustic given to the family. Soon after, Page became entranced with rock and roll, inspired by Elvis Presley's "Baby, Let's Play House". The rest is history...

Page became one of the hottest session guitarists in the U.K., turning down an offer to join the Yardbirds after Clapton left. Of course, he later joined the Yardbirds in 1966 in a brief guitar super-group with Jeff Beck and taking over the lead guitar spot until the group's demise in 1968. The formation of Led Zeppelin in the summer of 1968 would bring unparalleled success. Through Zep, Page could unleash his playing and songwriting in a variety of styles: blues, folk, Indian etc., but the magic of Led Zeppelin created an unimaginable chemistry of its own.

Robert Plant:

Robert Plant, the most sexiest man in 70's (look at pic, you will find the answer why... hehehe)

Robert Plant's interest in music began at an early age, entering the club scene at age fifteen. American blues artists such as Robert Johnson, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and many more fascinated Plant as he studied their music incessantly. Rock & Roll pioneers such as Elvis and Gene Vincent were also great influences.

He played with various groups in the 1960s such as The Crawling King Snakes, Listen, Hobbstweedle, The Band of Joy (with John Bonham), which concentrated mainly on the blues. In 1967, he released several solo singles on CBS, but it was a far cry from his true capabilities.

Rare demos from the Band of Joy era reveal a glimpse of what the future held. After a session with Alexis Korner in 1968, Plant would soon be asked to join Led Zeppelin, and recommended Bonham as well.

His style varies through the years as does his influences. Through Led Zeppelin, Plant was able to explore a variety of styles including heavy rock, folk, blues, Indian and Celtic. The quintesential rock vocalist and frontman, often immitated but never duplicated.

John Paul Jones:

John Paul Jones

John Baldwin (born January 3, 1946 in Sidcup, London), better known by his stage name John Paul Jones, is an English musician and was the bassist and the keyboardist for Led Zeppelin from its inception until the band's breakup following the death of John Bonham in 1980. A versatile musician, he also plays guitar, mandolin, koto, lap steel guitars, autoharp, ukulele, cello, and the three over-dubbed recorders heard on "Stariway to Heaven". He is widely respected as both a musician and a producer and is considered as one of the most influential bassists in rock music.

A Mixed Emotional Race Day...

He was the person who saw Ayrton Senna deadly crashed...

Every drivers dream to beat him...

He is a most respected person by everyone...

He is brave and with brilliant skills on race track...

He is the F1 history maker and record breaker...

If he not racing F1, he may represent German Football Team...

He is a living legend...

He won 7th times world champion title and still fighting for 8th time world champion to date...

He is my second Formula 1 driver I cried for after the death of Ayrton Senna...

He is Michael Schumacher!!!

German ace Michael Schumacher is recognised as being at present the world's best racing driver. Many people say he is the best ever, but he himself denies any comparison to Fangio of the 50s - the only other driver to achieve five F1 championships. In 1995 Michael became the youngest double Formula 1 World Champion (1994 and 1995 seasons) ever. Michael is also the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and current (year 2004) World Champion. This phenomenal record speaks for itself. In 2003 he beat Juan Manuel Fangio's five championships, by taking his sixth!

Facts about Michael Schumacher:

Nationality: Germany
Date of Birth: 3 January 1969
Married: Married to Corinna, two children (Gina Maria and Mick)
F1 Debut: Belgiam GP, 1991
World Champion: 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004
Driven For: Jordan (1991), Benetton (1991 - 1995), Ferrari (1996 - 2006)

Michael Schumacher with Ferrari

Today, 10 September 2006, I was so happy after the retirement of Fernando Alonso cause of engine failure, which mean the world champion title is wide open. M. Schumacher just 2 points behind Alonso of the drivers championship point standing and just left 3 more races to go.

But... just after he won the Italy GP (Monza) he has confirmed he will be bringing a glittering racing career to a close at the end of the 2006 World Championship, answering months of questions concerning his future. He announced it during the post racing press conference with his voice cracking and struggling to hold back the tears, he explained the time had come for him step aside for his successor, who is set to be confirmed as Kimi Raikkonen, second to the German in Italy, and current team-mate Felipe Massa.

I don't know why... I just hate Alonso so much. I'm a die heart fan of Mclaren team since 20 years ago. Now I'm in dilemma, Kimi Raikkonen is my current favorite driver but he gonna leave Mclaren and replace M. Schumacher for next season. Meanwhile Alonso will join Mclaren for next season. How can I support Mclaren with that Alonso?

Kimi Raikkonen

Anyway... no matter how I still will support Kimi, he is the most potential driver to be Senna and Schumacher's successor. I like him not because he is good looking and cute ok! I know most girls will fall to him with his cute look and the most killer blue eyes... oh yah... he is married already, hey girls... I'm sure you all very disapointed now...hehehe. But to me he got his own persenality which I respect. He is cool and calm during race, brave and with brilliant skills.

Good luck Kimi Raikkonen!!!

Michael Schumacher... You're always my hero!!!

Band Of The Week - Pink Floyd

Alright, it's gonna another weekend again, this time no more joke, I just want to share one of my favorite rock band... Pink Floyd. Maybe most of you will ask... "who the hell is this band?" Well, now I'm telling you more or less about them.... (This band was formed before I was born, so... don't think that I'm so old ok? kekekeke). Before this, I just want to share with you all one of my most favorite song by Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb. This song has been voted as the best guitar solo in 20th century. I upload this live version because I felt it's better than studio version. Please turn on your speaker louder and enjoy it while you read this entry...

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (PULSE)

Pink Floyd is a British progressive rock band famous for its songwriting, harmonic classic rock compositions, bombastic style, striking album art and elaborate live shows. Pink Floyd is one of rock's most successful acts, ranking seventh in number of albums sold worldwide (180 million albums). Pink Floyd formed in 1965 and last recorded and toured in 1994, although they reformed for one night only at the London Live 8 concert on July 2, 2005, playing to their biggest audience ever.

Pink Floyd originally consisted of Syd Barrett (vocals, guitar), Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals), Roger Waters (bass, vocals) and Nick Mason (drums). In January 1968, guitarist David Gilmour joined the band to carry out the playing and singing duties of Barrett, whose mental health had been deteriorating for several months, but nevertheless was intended to remain as the band's figurehead and songwriter.

Their massively successful 1973 album, Dark Side of the Moon, featured a US Top 20 track ("Money"), and more importantly remained in the US Top 200 (where it hit #1) for 741 weeks (including 591 consecutive weeks from 1973 to 1988), breaking many records on the way, and making it one of the top selling albums of all time. Dark Side of the Moon was a concept album originally intended to be about the different pressures applying in modern life. This album is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records of being the charts longer than any other album in history.

Dark Side Of The Moon

In 1985, Roger Waters left the band. Pink Floyd only left another three members, but in 1994, they did a world tour concert and released the album named P.U.L.S.E. To me, this is the best ever concert I'd seen in my life. The sound effects and the lighting really can rock me pants off! I'm not kidding, here I show you all some pictures of this concert...:

Hey! Teacher! Leave the kids alone.

Nice or not? I got the CD/VCD/DVD collection of this concert. I never feel bored to listen it after and after for so many years.

Only July 2, 2005 was my most happiest day, Roger Waters rejoined Pink Floyd for the Live8 concert in London. I was sitting infront of TV in my friend's house because I don't have astro. We started watch the show from evening till next morning just waiting for Pink Floyd to perform. Not only me waiting for it, the whole world was waiting for Pink Floyd in Live8 Reunion. When the moment they started play, I was holding my tears because it was so excited and emotional.

Pink Floyd... you are always rock in my heart!

One day, Ah Beng went to pharmacy and wanna buy a condom. He asked the Pharmacist... "Halo, can give me condom ah? I'm going to my girlfriend's place for dinner and I think I may get a chance". The Pharmacist gave him the condom and then Ah Beng leaves.
